Position Overview
Rappahannock Church of Christ is seeking a passionate and organized Children’s Minister to lead and oversee our ministry to children from nursery through 5th grade. This ministry currently serves approximately 120 children each week and partners with about 80 regularly attending families.
The Children’s Minister will provide leadership, vision, and care for the children’s ministry by developing engaging, Christ centered programming, recruiting and supporting volunteers, and building strong relationships with children and families. Our goal is to create a ministry environment where children feel safe, loved, and excited to learn about Jesus. Our guiding philosophy is simple: Safety first, then fun, then Jesus.
Key Responsibilities
Ministry Leadership and Programming
- Oversee all children’s ministry programming for nursery through 5th grade
- Plan and lead weekly Sunday Kids Church, including worship, games, lessons, and small groups
- Ensure programming is engaging, organized, age appropriate, and safe
- Select and implement effective curriculum for children
Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, train, schedule, and support a team of 60 to 70 volunteers
- Coordinate weekly Sunday volunteer teams
- Provide encouragement, training, and clear expectations for volunteers
Team Leadership
- Lead and support the children’s ministry leadership team, including an assistant and volunteer preschool coordinators
- Provide direction, communication, and leadership development for ministry leaders
Events and Special Programming
- Plan and lead major children’s ministry events such as Fall Festival, Christmas events, Easter events, and Vacation Bible School
- Organize family fun nights throughout the year
Community Outreach
- Oversee an outreach ministry called “Lunch Crew” that serves teachers at Richmond County Elementary and Middle School
- Organize volunteers and involve children in service opportunities that build relationships within the community
Pastoral Care and Family Support
- Build relationships with children and their families
- Provide prayer, encouragement, and support to families when children face challenges
- Partner with parents as they raise their children in faith
Administration and Communication
- Maintain regular communication with parents, volunteers, and church leadership
- Attend monthly Elder meetings and twice monthly staff meetings
- Maintain organized systems that support ministry effectiveness
Desired Qualifications
- A strong and growing personal faith in Jesus Christ
- A passion for helping children know and follow Jesus
- Experience in children’s ministry or a related field preferred
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to recruit, equip, and encourage volunteers
- A heart for partnering with families in spiritual formation
