CHARACTER QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrates a passion for relationship with God through frequent time in the Word and prayer.
- Observable maturity in Christian character (1 Tim. 3:1-7; 2 Pet. 1:3-11).
- Demonstrates commitment to moral purity.
- Serves as an example to the youth in life and speech and purity according to 1 Tim. 4:12, 2 Pet. 1:1-8; Ps. 15.
- Strong family and marriage relationship. (if married)
- Able to relate to adults and youth in a multi-generational setting.
MINISTRY QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong team player.
- Vision and passion for long-term youth ministry.
- Has an awareness of current youth trends and is willing to adapt ministry style and programs to reach current and future generations.
- Commitment to relational environment philosophy for discipleship.
- Creative and innovative.
- Committed and able to integrate youth and youth ministry into the rest of the church body and ministry.
- Demonstrates ability to relate to and work with a diverse group of people, teens and adults, leading them to grow in their love for God and people.
- Collaborates with parents to facilitate the spiritual growth of youth.
- College education.
YOUTH MINISTRY JOB DESCRIPTION (est. 20-30 hours per week)
Develop a strategy that will reach and shepherd our youth (Jr. High, Sr. High) and eventually the unsaved youth and disciple them in their walk with Jesus, equipping them to love and live as Christ’s followers in a secular world and to use their gifts and abilities within the church. This strategy should include the following:
- Outreach events.
- Oversee Junior High and High School Wednesday night program.
- Discipleship groups.
- Regular events, both large and small.
- Events that will welcome newcomers into the group, such as those who are moving up from 6th and 7th grades.
- Reach out to visiting families who have youth in the 7th - 12th grade range.
- Encourage and equip teens in the spiritual disciplines of reading the Word and prayer.
- Recruit, train and disciple adult/student volunteers to help carry out this strategy. Serve as a player/coach to these students and adult volunteers as they carry out their ministry.
- Keep students, parents and church informed about events and activities.
- Counsel students as needed.
- Work with and visit with parents regarding the progress of their teenagers’ growth. Listen to the parents’ hearts regarding their teenagers and provide appropriate resources.
- Hold two or more parent meetings each year to inform parents about events, ministry progress, and direction.
EXPECTATIONS:
Social/Spiritual Development:
- Read God’s Word, Submit yourself to prayer weekly
- Seek Community of youth pastors to collaborate with and conduct events/services for area youth
- Submit yourself to the accountability of peers and a mentor
Weekly responsibilities:
Wednesday Night:
- Set up tables and chairs in the sanctuary for Wednesday night meal
- Assist in meal preparation (if needed)
- Prepare group game
- Prepare group Bible lesson and theme/questions for small group time
- Check in with adult leaders and update on upcoming events Office Meetings:
- Update Staff on upcoming events
- Keep track of youth budget
- Prepare message/group questions
- Make announcements/pray for offering/organize student ushers (if needed)
- Connect with Students:
- Make weekly contact with students via social media, texting, email, phone calls, along with regularly scheduled face to face meetings (lunch, games, activities)
Semester Responsibilities:
- One retreat each semester (campout, “Man-Up”, “Girl Talk”)
- A couple Fun Wednesday Night events
- See You @ The Pole and See You After The Pole
- Operation Christmas Child
- Young Christian Weekend
- Attempt to attend one sporting/school event for each student
Summer:
- One event for Junior High and Senior High each month
- Small Trips (camping, retreats)
- Big Trip (Mission/service Trip or Camp)
- CIY events
