Purpose of the Position
The Family Minister partners with parents, church leaders, and volunteers to disciple children and youth from birth through high school, equipping families to follow Jesus Christ faithfully. This role exists to support the church’s mission of restoring New Testament Christianity by teaching Scripture, encouraging spiritual formation, and fostering meaningful relationships within the church family.
Ministry Philosophy
The Family Minister affirms the core convictions of the Restoration Movement, including:
- The authority of Scripture as our guide for faith and practice
- Salvation through Jesus Christ, including baptism by immersion
- The importance of the local church and shared ministry
- Unity among believers and simple, biblical Christianity
This ministry seeks to equip parents as the primary spiritual leaders in the home while providing Christ-centered, age-appropriate teaching and mentoring.
Primary Responsibilities:
Children’s Ministry (Birth–Elementary)
- Develop and oversee a Christ-centered children’s ministry grounded in Scripture
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers for children’s programs
- Ensure safe, welcoming, and spiritually nurturing environments
- Partner with parents to reinforce biblical teaching at home
Youth Ministry (Middle School–High School)
- Plan and lead weekly youth gatherings focused on biblical teaching, discipleship, and community
- Build mentoring relationships with students
- Encourage student involvement in worship, service, and mission opportunities
- Organize retreats, camps, and service projects consistent with church values
Family Discipleship
- Equip parents with tools and resources for spiritual leadership in the home
- Provide support during key life stages (baptism, transitions, crises)
- Promote intergenerational relationships within the congregation
Leadership & Collaboration
- Work under the guidance of the elders and in cooperation with the preaching minister and staff
- Communicate regularly with church leadership and families
- Participate in staff meetings, planning, and church-wide events
Qualifications:
Required
- A growing, authentic relationship with Jesus Christ
- Commitment to Restoration Movement theology and values
- Strong understanding of Scripture and ability to teach it clearly
- Experience working with children, youth, and volunteers
- Excellent communication and relational skills
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in ministry, biblical studies, or a related field
- Previous ministry experience in a local church setting
- Training in family ministry or discipleship

- Organized, self-motivated, and dependable
- Able to work collaboratively within a congregational church structure
Accountability
The Family Minister is accountable to the elders (and/or senior minister) and serves in alignment with the mission, vision, and doctrine of the congregation.
Compensation
Salary and benefits commensurate with experience and may include health insurance, PTO, retirement plan and personal education expenses.
