This positon provides pastoral leadership, vision, and care to the families of OIKOS Christian Church, particularly those with children in the home. The role exists to disciple the next generation in partnership with parents and equip families to be gospel-centered, spiritually healthy, and missionally engaged. This includes ministry to children, middle school and high school youth, and their families—with a sensitivity to the unique dynamics of homeschoolers and foster/adoptive families.
This is a full-time staff position, working under the direction of the Lead Minister and in
harmony with all other staff as part of the (“OIKOS Ministry Team”). This role will be
accountable to the Lead Minister, who will provide regular coaching, training, and
annual reviews.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes:
- Meets the biblical qualifications of an elder/pastor (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:6–9)
- Demonstrates maturity in Christ and the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–25)
- Committed to OIKOS’s mission, vision, and theological values
- Familiarity or background in the Restoration Movement (Independent Christian
Churches/Churches of Christ) preferred
- Formal theological or ministry training (Bible college or seminary; bachelor’s
required, master’s preferred)
- Experience leading adult discipleship or spiritual formation ministries in a local
church
- Relational, Team Oriented, Humbly Teachable, Culturally Aware and Forward
Thinking
- Proven ability to identify, equip, coach, and multiply lay leaders
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Family Discipleship Leadership
- Equip and encourage parents as primary disciple-makers in the home
- Provide pastoral care and guidance for families navigating parenting,
homeschooling, blended family issues, and foster/adoptive care
- Host workshops, family nights, and outreach events aimed at building strong
Christ-centered homes
2. Youth Ministry Leadership (Grades 6–12)
- Cast vision and implement a weekly rhythm of worship, teaching, small groups,
and service
- Build mentoring relationships with students; create a joyful, safe, and engaging
environment
- Encourage student ownership of faith through mission opportunities and
leadership development
3. Children’s Ministry Oversight (Birth–5th Grade)
- Work with volunteers to provide engaging, gospel-centered programming for kids
- Ensure alignment between children’s curriculum and the broader discipleship
vision
- Partner with the Children’s Ministry team to develop leaders and equip parents
4. Volunteer Development
- Recruit, train, and shepherd volunteers for youth and family ministry teams
- Ensure Safe Church practices are implemented and volunteers are screened
- Foster a culture of joy, accountability, and spiritual growth within teams
5. Church & Community Integration
- Collaborate with other staff members to align ministries across age groups
- Actively participate in church life, worship, and special events
- Develop partnerships with local schools, homeschool networks, and family
service agencies
Additional Expectations:
- Maintain weekly office hours and visibility during Sunday services and midweek
ministries
- Attend staff meetings, planning retreats, and trainings under the guidance of the
Lead Minister
- Assist occasionally with general pastoral responsibilities (e.g., hospital visits,
weddings, funerals)
- Preach occasionally in Sunday services or as needed by the Lead Minister
- Participate in annual performance reviews conducted by the Lead Minister
