The role of the Student Ministry Director is to oversee the youth ministries at Grace Church under the direction and leadership of the Lead Pastor. This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values and strategy of Grace Church and the ability to work collaboratively with all staff, and align key leadership teams with its mission, vision and values. The Student Ministry Director will lead teens and parents to a genuine sense of belonging, involvement and spiritual growth at Grace Church by meeting teens where they are and leading them to next steps in cultivating a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Student Ministries will facilitate relational connection and spiritual growth of teens and parents through Sunday morning, Sunday evening/mid-week ministries.
Essential Job Functions & Duties:
Strategic Leadership (15%)
Responsible for providing spiritual and organizational leadership for the advancement of Grace Church’s mission to help students discover and deepen their relationship with Jesus. This includes:
- Developing a clear, practical, and inspiring vision for student ministry
- Contributing to the strategic planning efforts of the church
- Influencing healthy culture among the Grace Church staff and volunteer team
- Cultivating collaborative partnerships with strategic partners for the sake of mission advancement
- Overseeing the writing, implementation and assessment of ministry plans for both Middle School (7-8) and High School programs (9-12)
- Overseeing the execution of the student ministry plan for both Middle School (7-8) and High School students (9-12)
Relational Ministry (50%)
Provide leadership and oversight to the personal, program, and special ministry areas in carrying out Grace Church’s mission.
Contacting: Meeting new students, learning names, and developing relationships where students gather.
Building Times: Meeting with students for the sake of building relationships.
Appointments: Conducting appointments for ministry, counseling, evangelism, etc.
Follow-up: Implementing Grace Church’s follow-up plan for new believers
Student Leadership: Developing a team of student leaders and empowering them to reach their friends through Grace’s ministry strategy.
Large Group: Conducting and overseeing weekly ministry sites that reach Middle and High School students.
Small Groups: Providing leadership and oversight to student small groups.
Trips, Camps, Events, and Service: Conducting and/or participating in special trips, camps, events, and service opportunities throughout the year.
Leadership (25%)
Pursue and model a healthy, Spirit-led life that is fruitful in ministry, while encouraging and empowering staff and volunteers to do the same.
Abiding: Engage in a daily connected, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ.
Personal Development: Engage in a personal growth plan to reach your full potential.
Supervision: Attend weekly staff meetings, planning retreats, and meetings with supervisor as scheduled.
Training: Complete Grace’s ministry training process and participate in on-going training and continuing education.
Volunteer Management: Recruit, develop, and supervise teams of volunteers to carry out weekly ministry at middle and high school ministry sites. Duties include: Conducting weekly meetings, providing on-going training, and meeting individually with volunteers for encouragement and providing accountability.
Develop a Prayer Team: Develop and work with a team that regularly prays for the ministry team and students.
Support Team: Manage a team that provides the behind-the-scenes ministry support. (Set-up, clean up, refreshments, transportation, video and photos, admin help, etc.)
Parent Support: Build relationships with parents and provide needed resources and support.
Administration (10%)
To provide the necessary administrative support to advance the mission of Grace Church.
Ministry Reporting: Maintain records of student attendance and ministry measurements based on Grace’s ministry reports.
Correspondence: Establish communication with students and adults through various channels
Budget Management: Establish and manage an annual budget for the student ministry programs.
Expense Reports: Submit accurate monthly expense reports
Administration: Ensure that administrative responsibilities are covered in conjunction with office staff.
Projects: Assist in the organization and execution of special administrative projects.
Knowledge & Skills:
- A deep and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field (divinity, theology, Christian education, etc.) is preferred
- Experience in student ministry or a related field
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and parents
- Friendly disposition with the ability to connect with both youth and adults
- Ability to communicate and invite people into a compelling vision
- Good organization and time management skills
Education & Experience: A college degree is preferred. The learning curve for this position will require at least one full annual cycle.
