Job Summary – Jungle Kids for Christ (JKC) is a growing ministry whose goal is to empower children of the Ecuadorian jungle by sharing the gospel through education and teaching values and leadership. In addition to other ministries, JKC runs a school named Antioch Christian Academy. This job is a teaching position at that school. The EQUIP Program Teacher position is an initiative that tries to attract qualified English and other subject teachers by offering additional perks such as room and board with amenities, round trip plane ticket once per year, VISA, Health Insurance while overseas, and a salary (based on overseas pay).

Commitment Length – 2 full school years plus 6 months of Spanish language training before teaching (if needed).

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Facilitate a peaceful and harmonious classroom environment through classroom management and relationships with students (and among students) to maximize learning opportunities for all.
  • Promote participation of all students regardless of academic level, using every student contribution as a learning opportunity.
  • Use knowledge of school regulations and procedures (PRO FAMA documents) to properly implement them and to properly deal with disciplinary situations when they arise both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Follow personalized EDPs (Educational Development Plans) created by DECE (counseling department) for students who require extra support. When concerns arise or changes should be made, report to DECE.
  • Attend and provide support for (as needed) weekly chapel program on Friday mornings.
  • Update Additio (gradebook) daily with attendance and attitude grades; update formative and summative assessment grades when needed and in a timely manner.
  • Grade and correct notebooks, homework, projects, and tests in a timely manner with helpful feedback. (Special focus on spelling in notebooks for both Spanish and English!) 
  • Perform the aforementioned responsibilities diligently with up to 4 classes and using non-class time to prepare. *English teachers will also manage the online reading program (RAZ plus) for Antioch students.
  • Follow uniform of teacher (weekly rotation). Plan on bringing khaki pants/skirt, navy button-up/formal top, and black shoes for Mondays.
  • Lead students in prayer at the beginning of the day, before snack, before lunch, and before the end of the day.
  • Create and/or adapt annual, unit, and weekly plans to best promote student learning and growth. Be sure to follow the Academic Coordinator’s timeline for turning plans in.
  • Create and/or adapt formative assessments throughout the parcial to gauge student understanding and to allow students to advance levels. (Level 2: remembering and understanding, Level 3: apply and analyze, Level 4: create and evaluate). Be sure to give opportunities for advancement through the levels throughout every parcial.
  • Create and/or adapt end-of-unit and end-of-semester evaluations to best measure student understanding and provide a space to show what they’ve learned. There should be an evaluation for each level of learning. Be sure to follow the Academic Coordinator’s timeline for turning evaluations in for approval.
  • Assistance and coordination in extracurricular events such as: Sports championship (opening/closing/Family Day), year-end trips, Christmas and community visits, staff events, and all other events included in the annual calendar.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Commit to serve for at least 2 years teaching in the jungle.
  • Available to travel to Quito for language training for 6 month. (Preferably from January to July)
  • Provide proof of a degree (Bachelor’s or higher) or a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Willingness to learn Spanish or already can speak Spanish.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Must be willing to work with a cross-cultural team.
  • Agree with our statement of faith and abide by our code of conduct.
  • Must be flexible and willing to experience new things.

Expectations and Additional Information:

  • Hybrid-fundraising model used to raise support, approximate cost is $18,000 per year.
  • Housing will be provided.
