The First Christian Church of Oblong, IL, is seeking, a Pastor of Family Ministries, someonewho displays a pastor's heart and the gift of discipling parents and young couples. He must possess the skills to plan, organize, create, and improve. He must also effectively lead and shepherd. This individual must be a self-starter. While exercising strong leadership gifts, he must understand that organizational and administrative tasks are not an end in themselves, but rather, one of the ways God develops the spiritual health and well-being of His church.
Understanding that this is a new position, the Pastor of Family Ministries will work with church leaders to develop a ministry plan that incorporates the following areas:
FAMILY MINISTRY
Provide discipleship for younger families with or without minor-aged children by developing their spiritual maturity and challenging them to leadership in the church ministry programs, emphasizing Bible teaching, and promoting family devotional life. This may include expository and topical teaching, consistent with the elements of Article 3 of the church Constitution.
- Teach couples how to study the Bible on their own while encouraging scripture memory so they commit God’s Word to their hearts.
- Teach couples to pray providing corporate and personal prayer teaching and opportunities.
- Teach families the importance of the church and why God wants to make them a part of it.
- Help husbands and wives discover and use their spiritual gifts in their home ministry and the rest of the church body
COMMUNITY MINISTRY
- Work with couples to develop a plan of outreach to invite their friends to events where they can hear the gospel and experience the Christian community.
- Create small groups led by adult leaders.
- Build relationships with families to encourage, equip, and counsel them.
ADMINISTTRATIVE EXPECTATIONS AND DUTIES
- Prepare and present an annual ministry budget. Adhere to the budget and stewardship of finances entrusted to the family ministry program.
- Oversee budget requests in the family and children’s ministry areas.
- Organize and manage fundraising opportunities as necessary.
COOPERATIVE MINISTRY
Work with the senior minister, student minister and children’s minister to provide synergy between the student and children’s programs. When possible duplicate systems and strategies between these ministries while fostering flexibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Fulfills the character qualifications and duties of an elder in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-16.
- Graduate level seminary education or equivalent is preferred.
- Affirms the First Christian Church, Statement of Faith, as written in Article 3 of the church constitution.
- Affirms Core Values.
- Demonstrates wisdom in decisions, actions, and recommendations.
- Reports to the Lead Pastor.
SALARY PACKAGE
This is a full-time position. Compensation is commensurate with education and experience.
