Job Description:
The Pastor will serve as the shepherd and overseer of this local church – leading, feeding, and nurturing the body. The primary responsibilities of this role will be to preach/teach God’s Word, minister to the spiritual needs, equip the congregation for missional living, and lead with Spirit-led vision. The Pastor must support the Mission, Vision, and Statement of Faith of SCC.
Qualifications:
- Must be an ordained minister of the Gospel (or willing to pursue ordination).
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited Bible College is preferred. (Equivalent experience could replace the requirement of a bachelor’s degree).
- A heart for people and their spiritual formation.
- Ability and willingness to work with people from rural backgrounds.
- Ability to communicate well and able to preach in a manner to which all ages can relate.
- A commitment to teamwork and the ability to develop teams.
- Must be a self-starter, exercising initiative and judgement.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with the Board.
- Must align theologically and doctrinally with the Christian Church (Restoration Movement).
- Must pass a background check as determined by the Board.
- Some organizational and administrative skills are helpful.
Spiritual Requirements:
- A strong relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Agree with the Statement of Faith of SCC.
- Displays a measure of the Fruit of the Spirit.
- Possesses the characteristics of an overseer in 1 Timothy 3:1-7
- A call to pastoral ministry form God.
- Spiritual gifts relevant to this position are: pastor/shepherd, teaching, leadership, administration, and wisdom.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and vision for the church – working alongside the Board to stay true to our mission, vision, and core values.
- Motivate, equip, nurture, and admonish the congregation through example, preaching and teaching God’s Word.
- Spend significant time in prayer and Bible Study, seeking God’s vision, guidance, and blessing for SCC.
- Develop ministries and ministry leaders that fulfill our mission and vision.
- Equip the saints for ministry.
- Oversee the daily operation of the church, including the efficient use of all resources.
- Oversee the finances of the church – working with the ministry leaders to create and submit a proposed budget to the Board.
- Visit hospitalized or grieving church members and/or equip members to provide congregational care.
- Officiate weddings and funerals.
- Provide spiritual counsel as needed and within qualifications (salvation, premarital, life issues, etc.)
- Manage conflict in the church, seeking to reconcile relationships and promote unity.
- A 40-hour work week is expected (some of these are outside set office hours).
- Be available for emergencies.
- Take a weekly day off and a weekly Sabbath day.
- The pastor is accountable to the Board.
